The Best SEO Agency for Law Firms: 10 UK Agencies Compared

Ten UK agencies doing SEO for law firms - legal-only specialists and broader agencies - who each one suits, what they publish on price, and how to shortlist. We rank ourselves first; the method is below.

Legal search is expensive and competitive. National firms, claims companies and directories all chase the same terms, and the rules on what firms can say are stricter than in most sectors. That's why so many UK agencies now offer SEO specifically for law firms.

If you want the how-to rather than the who, our law firm SEO guide covers practice area pages, local SEO, SRA transparency rules and measurement.

Nomada Digital publishes this list. We've explained the reasoning below rather than pretending to be a neutral party.

How we built this list

1. A UK base.

2. A published law firm SEO offer - a dedicated page, legal client work or a legal-only focus.

3. Named legal clients, testimonials or case studies where the agency publishes them.

4. A public position on AI search, because clients now ask ChatGPT for solicitor recommendations.

5. Clarity on whether the agency serves high-street consumer work, commercial firms or both.

Who we left out: US agencies (much of page one for "law firm SEO agency" is American), freelancers, and UK agencies whose legal SEO claims we couldn't verify. Where an agency's location or details come from trade press rather than its own site, we've said so. There are no paid placements, affiliate arrangements or reciprocal link deals on this page.

The 10 best SEO agencies for law firms

1. Nomada Digital

Based in: York. Best for: commercial and specialist firms - corporate, disputes, probate, private client - that need to be found on Google and named in AI answers.

Nomada is an SEO and AI search agency working with professional services firms, including UK law firms. We focus on practice area pages that rank for the terms instructing clients actually use, and on placements in the guides and "best solicitors for" articles that Google and AI tools rely on. Our published results are mostly outside legal - Novuna at +163% qualified leads, for example - so judge us on how closely that approach fits your firm.

Worth knowing: we don't yet publish a legal case study, and we're not a legal-only agency.

2. Intellistart

Based in: Leeds and Manchester (per the Law Gazette's supplier directory). Best for: firms wanting a legal-only agency with AI search built in.

Intellistart works exclusively with legal professionals on SEO, web design and PPC, with a dedicated AI search optimisation service for law firms. Testimonials on its site include Setfords, LCF Law and Grieves Solicitors.

Worth knowing: works with firms from small high-street practices up to larger ranked firms.

3. Marketing Lawyers

Based in: Nottingham and London. Best for: regional and high-street firms wanting a legal-only team.

Marketing Lawyers offers SEO, GEO, PPC, web design and lead tracking for law firms, and was founded by a former in-house marketing head at a national firm. It says it's trusted by over 100 law firms, with testimonials from firms including Setfords.

Worth knowing: much of its published work is consumer-facing, such as conveyancing.

4. Go Up

Based in: London. Best for: London and national firms wanting a PR-led approach to links.

Go Up describes itself as an SEO agency for law firms and barristers' chambers, covering SEO, digital PR, link building and content, and says it has done legal SEO since 2012. Its work for Lawhive was shortlisted at the UK Search Awards.

Worth knowing: legal is one practice within a broader agency.

5. Conscious Solutions

Based in: UK (we couldn't verify its head office from its own site). Best for: firms wanting a long-established legal-only specialist.

Conscious Solutions has worked exclusively with law firms for over 20 years on SEO, web design, PPC, social, copywriting and digital PR, according to Legal Futures. Its published work with Hayes Connor reports a 327.7% rise in organic clicks in a year.

It offers AI search optimisation and names George Ide Solicitors among its clients.

Worth knowing: multi-sector, with a strong local focus.

7. Varn

Based in: London and Bradford on Avon. Best for: firms wanting a technical, AI-search-first specialist.

Varn describes itself as a specialist SEO and GEO agency for legal firms, with technical, off-page and analytics work plus an AI visibility framework.

Worth knowing: ask for legal client results on the call - we couldn't find them published.

8. 21Digital

Based in: Blackburn, Lancashire. Best for: multi-office regional firms and legal groups.

21Digital works on SEO, web development and CRO, and was appointed - then reappointed - by Lawfront, the group behind firms including Brachers, Farleys, Nelsons and Trethowans, according to Prolific North.

Worth knowing: we couldn't verify its AI search offer.

9. Whitehat SEO

Based in: London. Best for: firms that want transparent retainer pricing.

Whitehat SEO runs a 12-month SEO programme for solicitors covering practice area pages, local SEO, AEO and GEO, technical SEO and HubSpot reporting, with a separate offer for barristers' chambers. It publishes tiers of £2,000-£3,000, £3,000-£5,000 and £5,000-£8,000 a month.

The gap almost every agency on this list still has

More clients now ask ChatGPT or Google's AI answer for a recommendation - "best probate solicitors in Birmingham", "employment lawyers for senior executives". The firms named come mostly from directories, rankings, reviews and "best solicitors" articles, not from the firm's own site. Ask any agency how it measures how often AI answers name your firm, and which sources it will target.

The honest caveat

We rank ourselves first on a list we publish. Weight that accordingly.

We're not a legal-only agency and we don't yet publish a legal case study. If you're a high-street firm that wants a specialist who works only with solicitors, Intellistart or Marketing Lawyers may be the better fit. Where we fit is commercial and specialist firms that need visibility on Google and in AI answers.

Frequently asked questions

Should a law firm use a legal-only SEO agency?

It helps if the agency understands SRA rules and the difference between consumer and commercial legal work. A legal-only specialist guarantees that; a broader agency may bring stronger technical or PR capability. Judge on results for firms like yours.

How much does SEO for a law firm cost?

From around £400 a month for basic local SEO to £5,000-£10,000+ for competitive national programmes. Most regional firms spend £2,000-£5,000 a month.

How long does law firm SEO take?

Local and long-tail terms often move in three to four months. Competitive practice areas and national terms usually take six to twelve.

Do law firms need AI search optimisation?

Increasingly, yes. Clients ask AI tools for recommendations, and the answers rely on third-party sources like directories and reviews. A good agency should track it.

The takeaway

Choose a law firm SEO agency on results for firms like yours, comfort with legal regulation and a clear plan for both Google and AI answers - not on whether it calls itself legal-only.
